Breathe Easy with Coconut and Beeswax Non-Toxic Candles

Each candle contains coconut wax, beeswax, a cotton wick, an amber glass jar, and a metal lid. The wax is a proprietary coconut and beeswax blend with no added chemicals, additives, or dyes. Our Coconut & Beeswax Collection is a USDA Certified Biobased Product with 100% certified biobased content.

It depends entirely on what is in them. Many mass-market candles use paraffin (a petroleum by-product), phthalates to carry the scent, and synthetic dyes. We don’t use any of those. Our fragrance oils are developed with a family-owned manufacturer in the United States and are free from parabens, phthalates, carcinogens, neurotoxicants, and chemicals linked to reproductive harm or birth defects. We use no synthetic dyes, and our wicks are plain unbleached cotton. Every fragrance is vetted before we offer it; if a scent can’t meet that standard, we don’t sell it.

Not always. Essential oils are great in soaps and lotions, but some become chemically unstable when exposed to a flame and can release compounds that aren’t ideal to breathe. That is why we use a blend of both: natural essential oils where they burn cleanly, and specially formulated fragrance oils that stay stable under heat. “Synthetic” doesn’t mean harmful; a high-quality, phthalate-free fragrance oil is often the safer choice in a candle than an essential oil that breaks down when burned.

California’s Proposition 65 is a list of chemicals the state has linked to cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. Our fragrance oils contain none of the chemicals on that list, and our wax contains no paraffin or petroleum. We’re candle makers, not doctors, so we can’t make medical claims about pregnancy. What we can tell you is exactly what is and isn’t in the jar, so you and your doctor can decide.

Coconut is botanically a fruit, but the FDA lists it as a tree nut for food-labeling purposes, so we want to be upfront that our wax is coconut-based. Candle wax is not eaten or applied to skin, and we are not aware of any customer reaction, but we can’t make allergy guarantees. If you have a severe coconut or tree-nut allergy, please check with your allergist before burning any coconut-wax candle.

No lead, no metal core of any kind. Our wicks are 100% unbleached natural cotton with a vegetable-wax coating, made in the United States. There is no paraffin coating and no chemical additive on the wick, which is part of why the flame stays clean and even.

Every person’s sensitivity is different, so we can’t promise how anyone will react. What we can say is that the usual irritants in candles are absent here: no paraffin, no petroleum soot, no phthalates, no synthetic dyes, and a cotton wick that doesn’t smoke when trimmed. If you are sensitive, start with a 9oz candle in a ventilated room, keep burns under four hours, and talk to your doctor about what’s right for you.

Vegetarian, not vegan. Beeswax is the one animal-derived ingredient we use; there are no other animal-based components. We never test on animals, and neither do our suppliers.

Tunneling is when a candle burns straight down the middle and leaves a wall of unused wax around the edge. It happens when the first burn is too short. On the first lighting, burn for 2-3 hours until the melted wax reaches the edge of the jar; wax has a memory and will follow that pool on every burn after. Keep each burn under 4 hours and trim the wick to 1/8″ before relighting. The 9oz burns up to 35 hours, the 16oz double-wick up to 50 hours.

Almost always a wick that’s too long. Trim it to 1/8″ before every burn. Other causes: a draft from a vent, fan, or open window that makes the flame flicker; burning past four hours so the wick mushrooms; or debris (wick trimmings, a match head) sitting in the wax pool. Fix those and a cotton wick in coconut and beeswax should burn with no visible smoke.

Beeswax is the densest common candle wax, so it burns slowly; coconut wax burns cleanly and throws scent well but is soft on its own. Blending the two gives you both: our 9oz burns up to 35 hours and the 16oz up to 50, with a cleaner burn than paraffin, which is a petroleum by-product. Our blend is 100% biobased and USDA certified, with no paraffin, petroleum, or additives.

Choose the 9oz single-wick for personal spaces: a bedside table, desk, or bathroom shelf, and for gifts like stocking stuffers. Choose the 16oz double-wick when you want fragrance to fill a living room, dining room, or open floor plan, or when you’re hosting.
